Wang Luyan was born in 1956 in Shandong Province, and currently lives and works in Beijing. Major exhibitions include: 2017–2018 Wang Luyan, Yalu River Art Museum, Dandong, Liaoning Province (2017); Wang Luyan, Musée d'art moderne et contemporain, Saint-Étienne, France (2014); Wang Luyan: Sawing or Being Sawed?, OCAT Contemporary Art Terminal, Shenzhen (2007); Second Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane (1996); China / Avant Garde, National Art Museum of China, Beijing (1989); and The Stars Art Exhibition, Outside the National Art Museum of China, Beijing (1979). In 1988, Wang Luyan and Gu Dexin jointly created “Tactile Sensation”; between 1988 and 1995, he was a member of the “New Measurement Group,” alongside Gu Dexin and Chen Shaoping, which was featured in Exceptional Passage—China Avant-Garde Artists Exhibition in Fukuoka, Japan (1991).
