Liu Yaohua’s solo project The Mist opens at the Tattoo Parlour at the dusk of June 22. The fanciful colors that fill and shine through the two display windows echo with the Sanlitun’s night sky, tipsy with the area’s abundant artificial lights, the CHAO Hotel’s modern aura on their right, the shabby residential blocks where the Tattoo Parlour is located next to, the passers-by who either just walk by or stop to look at the windows, and the surrounding environment.

Display windows can attract attentions. The audience, who look into the windows from the outside, will discover the mist rising, expanding and churning inside, but once you try to focus on a spot inside the window, your eyesight is nevertheless lost in the bright and hallucinating colors – just like the artist’s own explanation: “It is a sugarcoated piece of reality, as well as a miscellaneous reflection of the complex modern society on our solitude souls.”

This is the second project the Tattoo Parlour has chosen on condition of anonymity. The juror this time is artist Wang Gongxin. The exhibition will be on till September 9th, 2018.

“Taking into consideration the Tattoo Parlour's urban cultural background and its showcase character, I try to create a highly dynamic public landscape, a mechanical play against the background called social space. It is a sugarcoated piece of reality, as well as a miscellaneous reflection of the complex modern society on our solitude souls.
